Virus
hoaxes.
If you get an email warning you of a new virus,
be skeptical. Especially if you received it through a “chain-email.”
Never forward that email to anyone. That is how viruses spread rapidly.
If you want to be sure it is in fact a virus and not a hoax, check the
websites below. |

Spyware
If worms and viruses weren't enough, there's a
new threat: spyware. This menace is defined as any software intended
to aid an unauthorized person or entity in causing a computer without
the knowledge of the computer's user or owner to divulge private data.
Once it's on your computer, it monitors your activity. For instance,
adware records the Web sites you visit and transmits that information
to advertisers, who then target you with pop-up ads. Many PC users have
unwittingly loaded or unknowingly had spyware downloaded onto their
computers.
This happens when a user clicks "yes" in response to a lengthy
and often extremely technical user licensing agreement. Or it happens
when users surf the Web and self-activating code is simply dropped into
their machines in what's called a "drive-by download."
Once this software is in your hard drive, it can be exceptionally difficult
to remove.
Here are two removal utilities that might be able to help you with this
problem.
Ad-aware is the award winning, multi-trackware detection and removal
utility (designed for Windows 98 / 98SE / ME / NT40 / 2000 / XP Home
/ XP Pro) that will comprehensively scan your memory, registry, hard,
removable and optical drives for known Datamining, aggressive advertising,
Parasites, Scumware, Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers,
Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components.
